Kanser, günümüzde ne yazık ki hala insan hayatını tehdit eden, gittikçe yaygınlığı artan, hem hasta hem hasta yakınlarının yaşamına etkileri olan, mortalite ve morbidite bakımından tüm dünyadaki önemli hastalıkların başında gelmektedir. Yaygınlığının bu kadar artmasına rağmen kanser tedavileri için de çok yaygın araştırmalar yapılmakta ve etkinliği bilinen çok sayıda kemoterapi ve radyoterapi uygulamalarının yanı sıra yeni nesil hedefe yönelik ilaçların bulunması da kanser tedavisinin gücünü artırmada büyük umutlar vadetmektedir.
Kanser tedavileri çoğu zaman yan etkilerinin fazlaca olduğu, hekimler için hem kanseri tedavi ederken hem de bu yan etkilerle de baş etmeyi gerektiren uzun bir süreci kapsar. Özellikle Tıp Eğitimi ve Tıpta Uzmanlık Eğitimleri sırasında kanser tedavilerine karşı gelişen yan etkilerin ve bunların yönetiminin öğretilmesi, hekimlik meslekleri sırasında da büyük destek sağlamaktadır. Bu amaçla, hazırlanmış olan bu kitabın kanser hastasına yaklaşımda önemli katkıları olacağını düşünmekteyiz.
