Cumhuriyetimizin 100. yaşını geride bırakırken Cumhuriyet şehri Sivas'ın sanayi tarihinin araştırılması amacıyla hazırlanan bu kitapta, geçmişten günümüze birçok kişiye ekmek kapısı olan sanayiciler, imalathaneler ve fabrikalar anlatılmaktadır. Cumhuriyetten önceki ve sonraki dönemler ayrı ayrı ele alınarak Sivas’ın bugünkü sanayi altyapısının gelişimi kitabın temelini oluşturmaktadır. Bir şehrin sanayi hafızası, sanayi kültürü hem ekonomik hem de sosyolojik açıdan önemlidir. O bölgenin yaşamı, kültürü, gelenekleri, görenekleri geçim kaynaklarıyla doğrudan ilgilidir. Dolayısıyla Sivas’ın sosyo-kültürel ya da sosyo-ekonomik yapısını ortaya koyabilmek için sanayi geçmişini iyi anlamak gereklidir. Sivas’ın sanayi hafızasını yazılı hale getirebilmek için önceki yıllarda açılan, işleyen, değer yaratan sonrasında bazı sebeplerle kapanan, unutulan Sivaslı sanayiciler ve imalat konuları araştırılmıştır. Bu amaçla var olan istatistiki verilerden ziyade Sivas’ta faaliyette bulunmuş, Sivas sanayisine dokunmuş değerli sanayicilerle görüşmeler yaparak sözlü mülakatlar yapılmış, hem katılımcıların kendi firmaları, hem de o dönemdeki Sivas ekonomisi hakkında çeşitli sorular sorularak bilgiler alınmış ve konuşmalar yazıya dökülmüştür. Sanayinin sözlü tarihi yazılı hale getirilerek arşivlere kazandırmak amaçlanmıştır. Bu çalışmada amaç sadece geçmişe ışık tutmak ve sanayinin bilinmeyen kısmını kayıt altına almak değil, geleceğe yönelik yeni hedeflerin belirlenmesine de yardımcı olmaktır. Bir zamanlar ekonomisi canlı ve çevre bölgelere merkez konumunda olan Sivas için tarihi tecrübelerden yola çıkarak gelecek için yeni planlamalar yapılabilir. Özellikle bölgesel kalkınmanın sağlanması ve dengesizliklerin giderilmesi amacıyla son zamanlarda Sivas gibi sanayisi gelişme çabasında olan iller için ileriye yönelik stratejik yatırım ve kalkınma hedefleri belirlenmesi gereklidir. Tüm bunlar geçmişten gelen bilgi ve tecrübelerle geleceğe yön vermek, geçmişte yapılan hataları yapmamak ve eksikleri tamamlamak adına önemlidir.
