Genel görüşe göre ulema sahabeyi tarif ederken; peygamberi görüp ona iman eden ve bu iman üzere ölen kimsedir diye tarif etmiştir. Tarifin kapsamı oldukça geniş olmakla beraber, cinlerin ve meleklerin bu kapsama dahil olup olmayacağı tartışma konusu olmuştur bu tartışmanın sonucunu etkileyecek en önemli faktör ise cinlerin ve meleklerin görülüp görülemeyeceği ve teklif dairesinin içinde olup olmadığıdır. Meleklerin sahibi olamayacakları çünkü onların teklif dairesi kapsamında olmadığına dair neredeyse icma’nın olduğu ifade edilirken cinler ile alakalı ciddi ihtilaflar olmuştur. Çünkü cinlerin görülmemesi ve dolayısıyla bilinememesi onlardan gelecek olan hadislerin sıhhatini ciddi anlamda etkileyecek ve onların meçhul veya mestur ravi kapsamında değerlendirilmesine sebep olacaktır. Bundan dolayıdır ki İslam alimleri bu konuya önem vermiş ve bu hususla alakalı müstakil eserler kaleme almışlardır. Bizler de bu tebliğimizde ulemanın görüşlerini inceleyip konu ile alakalı fikirlerimizi beyan edeceğiz.
