Tirozin kinazlar, farklı hücresel substratlardaki tirozin kalıntısını seçici olarak fosforile eden ve hücre içi sinyal iletiminde kritik rol oynayan enzimlerdir. İnsan Genom Projesi'nin deşifre edilmesinden ardından, elli altısı reseptör tirozin kinaz ve otuz ikisi hücresel tirozin kinaz olmak üzere doksandan fazla tirozin kinaz ailesi üyesi tanımlanmıştır. Bu enzimlerin anormal aktivasyonlarının, başta tümör oluşumu ve metastaz olmak üzere birçok patolojik süreçte merkezi rol oynadığının belirlenmesi, tirozin kinaz reseptörlerini ilaç araştırmaları için önemli hedefler olarak ortaya çıkarmıştır. Bu kapsamda ilki 2001 yılında lösemi tedavisi için onaylanan tirozin kinaz inhibitörleri, onlarca farklı ilacıyla günümüzde birçok solid kanserin hedefli tedavisinde etkin biçimde yer almaktadır. Bu kitap, tirozin kinazların moleküler ve hücresel temellerini, bu enzimleri hedef alan inhibitörlerin farmakolojik özelliklerini ve klinik uygulamalarını bütüncül ve disiplinlerarası bir bakış açısıyla ele almaktadır. Alanında uzman yazarların katkılarıyla hazırlanan bu eserin; tıp, eczacılık ve hemşirelik başta olmak üzere sağlık bilimleri alanlarında çalışan araştırmacılar, öğrenciler ve klinisyenler için güncel, güvenilir ve kapsamlı bir başvuru kaynağı olacağı inancındayız.
